This story is about Big Fish eating Little Fish - however one little fish is really cute and clever so the Whale, big as he is, does not have it all his own way. Particularly when he calls up an ally in a shipwrecked Mariner who really makes the greedy Whale feel down in the mouth! In 1980 Sheila Graber was commissioned to create a series of animated films for World TV based on Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" These books are based on the hand painted art work created on plastic "cel"for that series. About the Author:

Sheila Graber (pronounced Gray-ber) is an artist, animator and teacher with a deep empathy for all animals. In another life she would probably have been a Shaman! She has tried to bring Kipling's Classic work into the C21st without losing any of his poetry or humour. She has poured her artistry and love of the Natural World into these books hoping they will encourage future generations who read them to draw on their OWN creativity and write, draw or simply enjoy life - "Just So"

From School Library Journal:

Bks.). CIP. Philomel. 1988. Tr $5.95. Kindergarten-Grade 3-- Small (6 square), single editions present new illustrations for two of the most popular "Just So Stories." Each is filled with full-color watercolor illustrations executed in subtle tones. The format consists of double-page spreads, featuring a segment of the unabridged text above a small decoration which is faced by a full-page illustration, carefully surrounded by stylized borders and backgrounds. While individual illustrations are pleasant, there is little variety in style and composition, resulting in an overall effect of rigidity and predictability. The static, formal presentation is acceptable as an expression of the droll humor of the camel's tale, but the rollicking action of the whale's story is sadly suppressed. The series published by Peter Bedrick offers a better alternative for illustrated single editions of the tales. A wide variety of collections are available, including those illustrated by the author, and are better choices for most collections. --Starr LaTronica, North Berkeley Library, Calif.
