Reseña del editor:
This is the continuation of the series When we were Colored. Third installment of the collection. I hope that the earlier volumes were helpful. My job is only to find, compile and organize. This early film history can never be forgotten or lost. Even as I write these words, some of our earliest known film works are vanishing. Hopefully my effort will help our youth take a look back at some of the good things about the so called "good old days."This book is a collection of some of the early films/movies and shorts. Directed, produced, starring, featuring African Americans. Or Persons of Color. The time frame is the turn of the century. Up until the early 1960's. The genre was known as Race Films or Race Movies. During this time period America was still going through the Jim Crow and just out of Slavery complex. Movie theaters were set up based on skin color. For example if you were Black then you had to attend a Black or Colored theater. The same would apply if you were White. This in turn also caused a separation in the way movies were made. By having such a cultural divide the movies of the time would reflect the same. Just imagine if you will, if you have a White Clark Gable. Then of course you would also have a Black Clark Gable. This was totally noticeable in the film world. Some of the posters in this book will reflect this feeling and concept. This is a brief collection of some of the posters, promo material and Lobby cards from that era. i hope that you enjoy this collection as much as I have. I have tried to list the films in chronological order. Based on availability and documented evidence. Some of the images may appear grainy or of low resolution. If that is the case, that means that was the only available image I could find at the time of the printing of this book. In some cases only Lobby cards are Shown. That would mean that no known poster exist. If this book is well received by you, the public. I will continue my historical journey. I will continue to do more research and compile more Vintage posters, promo material and Lobby cards. Thanks to everyone that helped me on this long and tedious endeavor. We can never forget the pioneers of Early cinema. Lincoln film company, Norman Studios, Oscar Micheuax and we can not leave out Thomas Edison. Film has something magical about it. Allowing time to be frozen, If only for that brief moment. See you in volume # 4
