The Strange Case of Dr. Parkinson is a rare demonstration of scientific rigor and natural exposition. It flows with the ease of distilled knowledge that is funneled by careful reflection and wide experience (...) That is how captivating, how thorough and serious this seemingly light publication really is. I feel certain that this book is only the first of many of its kind, as the author will realize that he has hit upon the philosopher's stone of written communication in the medical field. Not only will this book be of interest to patients with Parkinson's disease, their relatives and friends, but it will also come to represent a pleasant road to knowledge for doctors and other health professionals (...) Dr. González Maldonado, with books such as The Strange Case of Dr. Parkinson, has discovered, perhaps by chance, a new, warm, personalized model for the doctor-patient relationship. Rafael González Maldonado is, among other things, a neurologist. Here he uses a new perspective to discuss Parkinson's disease, combining through knowledge with pleasant reading. He believes that scientific rigor should be accompanied by an esthetic sense, and that the truth, besides being true, is fun. These pages offer glimpses of the spirits that haunt the author (Gracián, Stevenson, Goethe, Leonard Cohen) and his more recent olves (mythology, emotional intelligence, shiping...); this is inevitable, because, after all, a man can only write the book he hold within. Doctor of Medicine, specialist in Neurology and Internal Medicine, he was an Honorary Research Fellow at the Royal Free Hospital in London. At present he is Head of the Neurology Service of the Hospital Clínico of Granada, Associate Profesor of Medicine, and member of the “F.Olóriz” Neuroscience Institute, He also has a private medical practice. In his spare time, he writes and lives.
