This is the first book of series "Histories of Scientific Insights". Here you find interesting stories about random events andtheir numerical characterization. It appears that ramdomness can be measured not only helpless phraze of type "maybe" or "probably". This book was published in Russian in Moscow and several thousand copies have been sold. The book can be useful for teachers who wish to make their classes more interesting. It also will be interesting for pupils who would like to be smarter than their teachers (:-).

I am applied mathematician. Over 20 years I was a Chair of "Large Scale System" Department at one of the best Russian universities - the Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology. In 1989 I was invited as Distinguish Visiting Professor at the George Washington University (USA). Later I worked as a Principal Engineer at excellent telecommunication company QUALCOMM and taught at the UCSD in San Diego. I authored about 30 scientific books published in Russia, United States, Ukrain, Germany, Bulgaria and Czech Republic.
