Reseña del editor:

This 260 pages book is the third and thoroughly revised edition, published in February 2014. Next to the history of the ponton Mercedes, the 190SL and the 300SL coupe/roadster, it deals with such interesting models as the South African "Bakkie" and a turbo-charged 190SL. It covers the exciting and sometimes even adventurous racing history of the individual models with rare period photos and it takes the reader back to the 1950s, so he can experience how it was to own a Gullwing and drive it for over 400,000 km on its first engine even to such remote locations such as Moscow in Russia.

The book comes with over 250 pictures, the majority of them in colour. Most of the colour pictures are non-Daimler-Benz photos and have never been published in a book before.

The author Bernd S. Koehling has more than 20 e-books and books about Mercedes-Benz to his credit. For a FREE BONUS please scroll to the bottom of this description.

  • Reseña del editor:

This book is all about the history of Mercedes cars introduced in the mid and late 1950s. It is the 2nd edition of MERCEDES-BENZ, The 1950s, Volume 2. . For this edition, the book has been revised and updated. It offers now over 250 pictures, many of them in color. Most of the color pictures are unique and have never been published in a book before. . It starts with the first "modern" sedan launched after the war: the dependable W120 and W121 180/190 ponton cars and its bigger siblings the executive W180, W105, W128 219/220 six-cylinder versions. . It also covers three iconic sports cars: - the 300SL Gullwing W198 I - the 300SL Roadster W198 II and - the 190SL W121 Next to the history of each model, this book describes, how two men have used the Mercedes 300SL Coupe as their daily driver, one of them even covering almost half a million kilometers (including a trip all the way up to Moscow, the Russian State capital). . Other subjects covered, are: - how a turbo-charged 190SL compared with a standard 190SL back in the 1960s - how it is to drive a 180 ponton diesel with close to 700,000 km on the clock in today's world or - why a 220S six-cylinder ponton is a suitable successor to a British Morris Minor. - the history of the men, who made these great cars possible, men like Prof. Nallinger, R. Uhlenhaut, K. Wilfert or M. Hoffman. . The book also talks coach-built versions such as the South African "Bakkie" or the ponton racing history. Detailed technical specifications and the production history of each car can be found at the end of the book.
