9781477547236: Yes and Philosophy: The Spiritual and Philosophical Dimensions of Yes Music

Yes is the British Progressive Rock super group famous for extended classical-style compositions such as Roundabout, Close to the Edge, The Gates of Delirium, and Awaken. For more than forty years Yes has been pushing the envelope and delighting audiences around the world. Yes are pioneers in the use of rock instruments to create an orchestral sound and their music has been extraordinarily influential. But Yes is unique in many ways. Yes is a band that paints pictures using sound: Yes music explores cosmic, philosophical, and spiritual themes; and Yes music aims at tapping spiritual potential. “Yes and Philosophy: The Spiritual and Philosophical Dimensions of Yes Music” is book that explores Yes music from a philosophical point of view, shedding light on the ecological, intellectual, spiritual, and cosmic themes that are woven into the tapestry of Yes’ music like an eternal golden braid.

From the Author:

Yes music is some of the most important music in my life. In my view, songs like Close to the Edge, Awaken, The Gates of Delirium, and Tales from Topographic Oceans represent some of the most ambitious and profound musical works of our time. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that these works will generate interest and critical study centuries from now.

Yes' best music has the ingredients for aesthetic greatness. It is well-structured, conceptually brilliant, and dazzling executed by virtuoso musicians. Yes music paints pictures with sound, but the band also explores philosophical, cosmic, and spiritual themes, such as the collective unconscious, war and peace, and spiritual awakening with a subtlety and profundity that is sorely lacking in most rock music.

My book, Yes and Philosophy, is an attempt to explore the philosophical and spiritual motifs that emerge in Yes music. As I'll argue, Yes music aims at tapping our highest potential. I hope I can show why Yes music has the capacity to take listeners to new heights of awareness.
