From the Inside Flap:

As one of the few Brazilian cookbooks written by an American-born author, this mouth-watering book features authentic Brazilian cuisine adapted for the American palate. Author Sandra Cuza has lived in Brazil since 1993, where her passion lies in researching and experimenting with Brazilian cuisine.

Highlighting many of Brazil's most cherished ingredients, such as fish, fruits, and rice, Cuza gives readers a taste of both the regional foods of Brazil-where African, Portuguese, and Indian cooking come together-and the contemporary dishes of So Paulo. An exciting range of recipes are included, from churrasco, black beans and bananas, and fish with quinoa to pineapple shells with shrimp filling, sauted mango, and pineapple ice cream.

From the feiras, or street markets, of the country's largest city to the common kitchen table, readers learn not only dozens upon dozens of easy-to-prepare dishes but also the history behind each food item and an overview of the development of modern Brazilian cuisine. Cuza includes a guide for buying the best Brazilian ingredients in the United States and adapts the dishes to fit today's kitchen.

Born in Kansas and raised in Southern California, Sandra Cuza moved to So Paulo, Brazil, in 1993. A short story, feature film, television film, and drama writer and novelist, Cuza taught creative writing with the American Society upon her arrival in Brazil. A foodie herself, she began experimenting with Brazilian cuisine in her spare time, which served as the inspiration for this book. Cuza received a BA from Mills College in Oakland, California, and an MA from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, California. In addition to authoring numerous books, she has worked as a teacher-including a creative writing teacher at UCLA-an actress, and a reader for a film company. She is a member of the Authors Guild and the International Women's Writing Guild. Her articles have been published in various literary magazines, and her accolades include first place in the Indiana Writers' Center Contest in 2005.
