This vintage book contains a collection of lectures given by Silvanus P. Thompson on the subject of electromagnetism. Although old, this volume contains a wealth of interesting and timeless information, and is highly recommended for those with an interest in electromagnetism and its early application. The lectures include: “Historical Sketch”, “Generalities Concerning Electromagnets”, “Typical Forms”, “Polarity”, “Uses in General”, “The Properties of Iron”, “Methods of Measuring Permeability”, “Traction Methods”, “Curves of Magnetization and Permeability”, “The Law of the Electromagnets”, etcetera. Silvanus Phillips Thompson (1851 - 1916) was physicist who worked as professor of physics at the City and Guilds Technical College in Finsbury, England. He became a member of the Royal Society in 1891, and is most remembered for his work as an engineer. This text is being republished now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition - complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.
