Using an expression for the displacements in terms of the vertical displacement of the middle surface and a stress function, the author obtains formulas for the displacements, strains, and stresses in terms of the vertical displacement and the stress function. The differential equations and formulas obtained are used to derive simplified plate equations, which can be valid even when the strains are relatively large.
