Excerpt from Nature, Miracle and Sin: A Study of St. Augustine's Conception of the Natural Order
The references, happily, were twice verified before my trouble began, but two small errors have been detected, and, perfection is far to seek in this field; a third revision intended has been found im practicable.

Excerpt from Nature, Miracle and Sin: A Study of St. Augustine's Conception of the Natural Order
These lectures were delivered in the Schools at Oxford during the summer term of the year 1914, on the appointment of the Warden and Council of Keble College under the terms of the Pringle Stuart Trust. They are printed for the most part as read, but some passages were omitted in the Schools for lack of time, and other gaps after wards observed in the argument have been filled. In the fourth lecture I have expanded the single sentence which was all that I could devote to an interesting suggestion made two or three days previously by Dr. Sanday. The sixth has undergone a drastic revision, which owes not a little to a brief and pungent criticism passed upon it at the time of delivery by Mr. Way of the Pusey House.
I have tried to keep close to my subject, and I hope it will be allowed that on the whole I have been successful. Some strength of will was needed, for St. Augustine's discursiveness is an infectious quality, and he spreads another snare, even more insidious, for the interested reader.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the Christian African philosopher St. Augustineâs conceptions of nature, miracle, and sin, as presented in his writings. The author first examines the influences shaping St. Augustineâs ideas, such as his Christian upbringing, African heritage, Manicheanism, Platonism, and skepticism. The book discusses how, for Augustine, nature is the work of a single, good God, created out of nothing. It highlights St. Augustineâs struggle to reconcile this view with the existence of evil, which he ultimately defined as âprivation of beingâ or the absence of goodness. Furthermore, the book reviews Augustineâs thoughts on the human will, voluntary actions, and moral responsibility. It investigates Augustineâs view that humans have free will as an essential characteristic, despite their determination by the divine prescience. The author notably explores the interplay between nature and miracles in Augustineâs thought, arguing that the latter do not contradict nature but rather reveal the fullness of Godâs power. Finally, the book demonstrates how Augustineâs insights into nature, miracle, and sin have had a lasting influence on Christian theology and Western thought.
