The edition now presented to the public comprises selections from previous volumes, poems that have appeared only in a fugitive form, and others that have never before been indebted to the ministry of the press.

It is hoped that its tripartite character may not be displeasing to the reader, since the genius of the artist and the taste of the publisher have lent their powerful aid to render it attractive. In the alcove of the library, on the centretable of the matron, to the ear of the young and beautiful, it shall breathe only pure thoughts, like the dew-drops lingering upon the rose. May it be found worthy to touch some chord of that spirit-intercourse, to be perfected in a clime where the rose never fades, and the music-strain is immortal.
