SHERIDANZ I inclose you herewith copies of letters of date July 20, Jul 26, a memorandum without date, July 28, and July 31. lhese matters are brought to my unofficial attention, but they pertain entirely to official matters. You need not give consideration to the last two paragraphs in the letter of July 31. You will call upon the writer or author of the letter of July 31, 1909, addremed to me, and advise him that I am in no way prejudiced against him by reason of an revious matters, or any matter referred to in said letter, and that, on the other han, yarn in no way prejudiced against the person to whom he makes reference, but that it is necessary that thorough investigation be made of any official matter which may form the basis of the opinion of the writer. You will also make any independent inqui or investigation that may be necessary. You wi advise the writer of the letter of J uly 31 that the subject-matter of this letter and the inclosures attached are known on y to yourself, himself, and mvself; and that there is to be no suggestion made or given out that this matter is a subject of in uiry.
