Upon his accession, he continued benefactor Tuzun in the post of emir al omra; who, in consequence of this office, had the government of Bagh- dad, with the. district belonging to it, entirely committed ·to his charge. At this period, Abu Yezid Ebn Condad, of the tribe of Abu Ytzid Zenat, or Zanat, whofe mother was an Ethiopian slave in r'Mt the city of Toser, or Tozer, the Tisurus of Ptolemy, rebelled against Al Kayem, the Fatemite khalif of Kairwan, Africa!" in Africa. His arms were attended with such wondersul succefs, that he reduced the cities of Kairwan, Al Rakkada, and Tunis, befides all the other sortresses of lefs strength, overthrew, in a bloody battle, an army sent against him by Al Kayem, besieged that prince himself in the citadel of Al Mohdia sor seven months, and slattered himself with the hopes, as he was reduced to great distrefs sor want of provisions, of starving him to a surrender.
