Sinopsis

""Elements of the Differential and Integral Calculus: Method of Rates"" is a mathematical textbook written by Arthur Sherburne Hardy and originally published in 1890. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to the concepts and techniques of calculus, with a particular focus on the method of rates. The text is divided into two main sections: differential calculus and integral calculus. The differential calculus section covers topics such as limits, derivatives, and applications of differentiation to problems in physics, geometry, and optimization. The integral calculus section covers topics such as integration, area under curves, volumes of solids of revolution, and applications of integration to problems in physics, geometry, and probability. Throughout the book, Hardy emphasizes the method of rates, which involves using calculus to analyze how quantities change over time or in response to other variables. He also includes numerous examples and exercises to help readers develop their understanding of the material. Overall, ""Elements of the Differential and Integral Calculus: Method of Rates"" is a classic work in the field of mathematics education, and remains a valuable resource for students and educators today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Calculus. No comparisons have been made between this method and those of limits or of infinitesimals. This larger view of the Calculus, and of mathematical reasoning and processes in general, cannot readily be given with good results in the brief time allotted the subject in the general college course. The immediate object of theD ifferential Calculus is the measurement and comparison of rates of change when the change is not uniform. Whether a quantity is or is not changing uniformly, however, the rate at any instant is determined in essentially the same manner; viz. by ascertaining what its change would have been in a unit of time had its rate remained what it was at the instant in question. It is this change which the Calculus enables us to determine, however complicated the law of variation may be.
