Sinopsis

Body and Mind: An Inquiry Into Their Connection and Mutual Influence, Specially in Reference to Mental Disorders is a book written by Henry Maudsley, a prominent British psychiatrist and medical writer. The book explores the complex relationship between the body and the mind, and how they influence each other in the context of mental health disorders.Maudsley begins by examining the historical and philosophical perspectives on the connection between the body and the mind, including the ideas of ancient Greek philosophers and the theories of 19th-century medical thinkers. He then delves into the physiological and neurological aspects of the mind-body connection, exploring the ways in which the brain and nervous system interact with the rest of the body to produce mental and physical states. The book also examines the role of genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors in the development of mental health disorders, and how these factors interact with the mind-body connection. Maudsley provides detailed case studies and examples to illustrate his points, and offers insights into the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders from a holistic perspective.Overall, Body and Mind is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the complex relationship between the body and the mind, and the ways in which this connection can impact mental health. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the field of psychiatry, psychology, or mental health, and provides a thought-provoking analysis of the factors that contribute to mental health disorders. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Reseña del editor

The three lectures formi Dgthe first part of this volume were delivered before the Royal College of Physicians of London, to which I had the honor of being appointed Gulstonian Lecturer for this year; the latter part consists of two articles which, having appeared elsewhere, are reprinted here as presenting a completer view of some points that are only touched upon in the lectures; and the general plan of the whole, as thus constituted, may be described as being to bring man, both in his physical and mental relations, as much as possible within the scope of scientific inquiry. The first lecture is devoted to a general survey of the Physiology of Mind to an exposition of the physical conditions of mental function in health.
