The Pitt men's basketball team competes in the Big East Conference and plays their home games in the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers have won two Helms Athletic Foundation National Championships, reached one Final Four, received 15 First Team All-American selections, will have appeared in 23 NCAA and eight NIT tournaments, and through the 2010-11 season have recorded 1,465 victories against 1,048 losses since their inaugural season of 1905-06. The head coach of the Panthers since 2003 is Jamie Dixon. Pitt All-American Don Hennon drives around Duquesne University's Bob Slobodnik during a 71-56 Pitt victory in the Steel Bowl tournament on December 13, 1958 The University of Pittsburgh began playing men's basketball in 1905-06 under coach Benjamin Printz. The University did not field a team during the 1909-10 and 1910-11 seasons. The program was resurrected in 1911 under head coach Wohlparth Wegner, and the following year Dr. George M. Flint assumed head coaching duties and began rebuilding Pitt's program essentially from the ground up.
