The year 1912, just closed, will go down in the archives of the Lancaster County Historical Society as one of the most important in its long career, marked as it has been by many notable events that have aided in advancing the work for which the Society was organized, as set forth in the call issued November 11, 1886--"to make a systematic effort to gather and preserve the material relating to the history of Lancaster county." During the past year the members have contributed a large amount of historical matter bearing on our early history, its value being enhanced by the fact that it was along lines of original research and nearly all new to the Society and the general public. From the.excellent article, On the Conestoga River, read at the January meeting by Mr. F. R. Diffenderffer, to the paper on Petei Lehn Grosh, read at the last meeting by Herbert H. Beck, the Society has enjoyed at its monthly sessions a series of papers that have been most edifying and instructive. Let us hope that the year upon which we have just entered will be just as productive of good things along historical lines.
