First call was buying wedding presents for his wife. He loved walking about the town with her, making her look at all the pretty things in the shop windows, and saying they must and should be hers. But Gladys was too quickly satisfied: she wanted so little, and he wished to buy so much. "One more wedding present," he used to plead. "Something you would really like, and then I'll stop."
