On 10 April 1990 Randy Lapeer, a USAF Captain, lands his U-2 Reconnaissance Aircraft on Beale Air Force Base. Unfortunately for his career plans, he flipped an 'off limits' switch to the on position while in the air over hostile territory. Lapeer points to flamed out gauges on his instrument panel as proof the Iraqi's used a beam weapon against his ship. Think tank nerds out of Washington, except for Stanley Craypool, think otherwise. So now, Captain Lapeer needs a new job. With all the men and women under canvas in Saudi Arabia cracks begin to appear in the rules of engagement set up by stateside planners. For one thing, it's proving near impossible to tell the difference between commercial trucks and SCUD missile launchers. A-10 and U-2 pilots would like help and advice from Stanley Craypool. But- Stanley and his girl friend, Elizabeth Maxwell, have been kidnapped by Iraqi agents and taken to a remote farm house for- 'interrogation'. Just as air to ground combat operations seem to be smoothing out Lieutenant Roxanne La Fontaine is shot down over enemy territory. Locating her plane is not too difficult for the J-Stars crews. But what if the Iraqi's have set up a perimeter ambush around her crashed A-10? Does Saddam Hussein have a beam weapon? A team of Marines, Soldiers, and C.I.A. Action Officers, helicopter into Iraq in the dead of the night to have a look inside the horn of a microwave relay tower. The pictures Major Andy Howell takes of a sinister device lurking inside the horn change the entire strategy of the First War in the Gulf!

About the Author:

Half way through his first active duty assignment. Alan Drabke found himself at Squadron Officer's School on Maxwell Air Force Base. On the way to class one morning in the company of a Viet Nam War Veteran. He listened very carefully to the following remark. "We estimated a certain real percentage of our pilots would suffer arm and leg amputations during their forced landings. ... But in the entire ten years of the war, they never returned an amputee." ... Alan Drabke never forgot those words. When he sat down to write the Gulf War One Trilogy. He determined to spin the whole tale around that one single comment. ...
