Sinopsis

John Fallon, the author's father, enlisted in the USMC just after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Forty years later, he began telling his WW II stories over and over again. The author, a registered nurse, in an attempt to assist her father with what appeared to be survivor guilt, asked him to begin journaling his experiences. John and his daughter then began a collaborative process of writing essays about his life as Marine, first in boot camp, then training at Camp Pendleton. John was a member of the 4th Marine Division. He was being prepared to serve in the battle for the outlying islands of Roi and Namur as well as Saipan and Tinian. After her father's death in 2016, the author combined her fathers memoir with her and her younger brother's thoughts on how their father's U.S.M.C service affected their lives.
