NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Amid the wreckage left by the collapse of commodities trading giant Refco is a world-class collection of contemporary art photography. Acquired and nurtured over three decades by the wife of Refco's founder, the collection is headed to the auction block to help pay off creditors. The photographs, roughly 500 in all, once graced the walls of Refco Inc.'s RFXCQ offices in New York and Chicago but are now sitting in storage. On Tuesday, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Drain authorized Christies to sell the works this spring at an auction that could raise $7 million, by some estimates. That wouldn't be a bad return on assets that cost less than $3.5 million to acquire.
