Linked to the exhibition at Sir John Soane's Museum, 25 June - 26 September 2015, this book examines one of the most important educational tools and sources of inspiration for Western artists for over five-hundred years: drawing after the Antique. Written by Adriano Aymonino of the University of Buckingham, and Anne Varick Lauder, Curator of the Katrin Bellinger collection.The exhibition features a selection of thirty-four works - drawings, painting and prints from the Katrin Bellinger collection and selected loans from the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Kunsthaus Zurich, the British Museum, the Royal Academy of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Courtauld Gallery.
Biografía del autor:
Adriano Aymonino is Lecturer and Co-ordinator of Undergraduate Programmes in the Department of Art History at the University of Buckingham. He obtained his PhD at the University of Venice with a dissertation on the patronage and collecting of the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland in eighteenth-century England, which will be published by Yale University Press. His main interest is the reception of the classical tradition in the Early Modern period, with a particular focus on eighteenth-century Britain. He recently organised an exhibition on the Topham Collectin at Eton and is currently preparing with Eloisa Dodero a revised edition of Francis Haskell and Nicholas Penny's Taste and the Antique. Anne Varick Lauder is the Curator of the Katrin Bellinger Collection. Previously, she held curatorial positions in the Drawings Department, Morgan Library & Museum, the Drawings Department, J. Paul Getty Museum, the Print Department, New York Public Library and the Photographs Department, National Portrait Gallery. She completed a monograph and catalogue raisonne on the Venetian artist, Battista Franco, for her PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2004, and has authored numerous articles and exhibition catalogue entries on the artist. Her book, Dessins italiens due Musee du Louvre: Battista Franco, was published in 2009 to accompany the first ever exhibition devoted to the artist, held at the Louvre in 2009-2010.
