The clock strikes midnight. Bong, bong, bong. The house is dark and hushed. Only the lights on the Christmas tree twinkle. Beth sits at the foot of the tree. She waits, gazing up solemnly. This is magic hour. She clasps her hands in her lap and stares hard, trying not to blink.
