Review:

"The chapters are clearly written, in simple language that should appeal to students and reflect the fact that the authors themselves have recently been OSCE candidates. They are all part of what I believe is a genuine re-invigoration of the art of teaching amongst junior medical staff." Simon Maxwell, Professor of Student Learning Medical student reviews, that have bought and used the book, follow: "I loved this book! Easy to read with great concise and relevant information. The book provides more than just explanations of commonly tested History and Physical Examination stations, it is filled with Consultant tips, Cases to Learn from, review questions and tables of vital information. I based my OSCE study from this resource, great for students of all levels!" "Great book that I found really useful for my OSCE in 3rd year. No doubt it will be making an appearance again come 5th year. Would strongly recommend this book to anyone even if you aren't struggling with OSCEs. Nice concise information on what to get accross in explanation stations too." "I brought this book on a whim - after my fb feed was clogged with reviews. I haven't found anything like it. It really summaries the key points into 1 or 2 pages per topic, and is clearly laid out, with pictures summarizing the key signs and tests. I found it really good for passing my 4th year, as it has topics on specialities, and enough details, although there was chapters that I didn't yet need (useful for next year), however I wish I found it earlier as it covers the core examinations in really simple terms- and wish I had when learning the first time" "This book is written in a clear and organized manner, very easy to follow and covers what you really should know for your OSCEs. Highly recommended!" "This book was invaluable in revision for my finals. thanks to everybody who has contributed. I can definitely definitely recommend it to anybody else studying for finals." "Just want to pass on a big thank you to the editorial team from myself and friends in Southampton (year 3), it was all we used for OSCE prep and all went well. Really an excellent book." "Very good book covering a lot of basics OSCE stations for medical school - it details pretty much 100% of what you need to know for passing OSCEs at medical school level without all the extra details many other books go into. It's colourful, easy to read and you're able to flick to sections quickly, however, it's pretty heafy so not very good for carrying out and about, or reading on the bus." "Brilliant book. Really clear text with good pictures. Aimed at the right level for medical finals with great examples of scenarios and tips for how to improve." "Very clear, easy to reference and informative guide. Arrived on time, and came in really useful for the end of year osce, as well as for my elective work experience on AMU. No doubt I'll dipping back throughout year 5. Highly recommended." "Excellent book which provided practical and useful tips and instructions. Would certainly recommend this to other med students during their clinical years." "Preparing for the finals OSCE isn't an easy task and it's certainly not stress-free when you have to trek through all your notes from first year, put them in order, rewrite them so it's concise and thorough...before actually starting to practice! And with practice, it's only a matter of how much you have done that makes a difference. Being in this situation now, you yearn for a book that contains most ofl the materials you need to start practicing NOW, and this is it. This unofficial guide is different to the traditional ones in that it is so much easier to follow when we start practicing! So if you want more time, more practice and so be more slick at the exams, this is the solution, well for me it certainly is!" "This book is set out really nicely, looks accessible and covers all the basics I need. It's a lot thicker than I expected, but is well organised and succinct. A great aid for finals!" "Extremely useful book - I will definitely use this for my final exams! Concise and very clinically relevant information packed into an OSCE book - it goes beyond any of the other OSCE book I have seen" "This book covers everything you need for OSCEs and beyond at 3rd year level. For 3rd year OSCEs it covers everything in a very concise manner (everything you need, without the waffle) with very handy little fact boxes scattered throughout! Absolutely recommend it for anyone preparing for OSCEs and will be continuing to use this book through to finals. Absolute gem" "This book concisely covers everything medical students need to know for their osce exams. It is clear, easy to understand and there is a lot of colour to keep the reader interested. All important concepts are explained with photographs which aid in learning. Key points are emphasised. I found the 'present your findings section' amazing, as I don't think we are taught this properly and this book tells you exactly how to do that. I think the book is well laid out and subdivided very well. It even covers how to write transfer, referral and discharge letters and how to write a death certificate. Excellent value for money and a must have for medical students. This book is all I need for my OSCE revision." "Excellent OSCE book, lots of nice illustrations and I like it how each section has a case summary at the end. An extensive chapter on a range of examinations, which as great." "To start with, it's an excellent book with great illustrations and very useful content. As a final year medical student, I would say that it's of great help to have examples of how to present your findings in a clear and systematic way. There are lots of tips and hints provided, which make life easier ( making revision process more efficient). I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. Good value for money, one of the best buys so far." "I used this for my specialities OSCE and will use it for finals this year. Arrived quickly and has been helpful. There are free alternatives around but this colourful charity book is worth the money." "This textbook is an excellent source for medical students looking to excel in their OSCE exams. The proceeds go to charity which is fantastic. The chapters are well written and edited and flow with ease. This is a real must for all students" "Without a shadow of a doubt this book was my revision bible for my first year clinical exams. It explains concepts and techniques clearly (unlike other revision aids I know) through both text and images. The layout is well considered making it very easy to read. Clearly structured into well defined chapters, I found that it provided me with a good grounding in not just clinical examinations but also history stations and emergency management. I felt that this book was the most comprehensive revision resource I found for OSCEs by a clear mile!" "I received this book after I had completed my Medical School OSCE's. I wish I had this resource with me at the time. Each chapter is thoughtfully created, easily presented and thoroughly summarised giving you interesting and relevant tables, pictures and boxes of text that break a complicated process into easy to understand segments. Not only does it provide information for the common GI/CV/RS/Neuro examinations as this information is freely available in other books, but it provides useful sections of practical skills with information I have found invaluable post-OSCE on the wards. A further section of commonly presenting conditions, broken down into an ABCDE approach and what to do at each stage is useful for mental practice before you are confronted with these conditions in real life. Too many books speak in broad terms and concepts, but when it comes down to it, at the moment you see that patient in real life, remembering that the patient needs "fluid" doesn't help you as much as knowing how much and what type, and I was impressed at this books ability to tackle this. I am still exploring this book, but it has a wealth of information for such a small price. Despite it being produced by Southampton University students, don't hold that against it (joking!), its well written and researched and profits going to charity is a bonus. Thank you!" "I bought this book to help with my revision for 4th year OSCEs and it has really helped me prepare for them. It condenses each station into around 2 pages and contains useful mnemonics and ways of remembering important information. It covers such a range of stations that It will become a very useful source for finals next year! This book makes learning OSCEs much easier!" "I bought this book at my medical school where a junior doctor informed me that all proceeds from the book were going to charity. I think it is an excellent revision resource as it summarises crucial points needed for developing competence with regards to clinical examination and history taking. It is useful for any stage right from third year, when most of us enter our clinical years all the way up to revision for final OSCEs. I particularly like the fact that there are plenty of pictures and diagrams demonstrating examination technique and the excerpts from the authors with case examples and case studies are also extremely helpful to learn from. It can be used to practice with a friend as well, as each section is outlined with a case scenario and conclusion to the case which I feel is quite unique to this book. In addition, there is also a very handy practical section on prescribing and writing hospital letters which will be the bread and butter of our work as junior doctors, and I feel that taking away the pointers and advice from this well written and concise book will prepare us well for that." "I have recently bought this book after hearing from 2 of my medic friends that they found it incredibly useful and recommended it highly. it is clear and easy to use, with pictures aiding your understanding. the topics are in clearly marked categories, with one for every station you could come across. the clinical context spans across the book, but without going i...
