The record collecting freaks at Shindig! have gone all fuzz pedal with a special collectors garage punk special! Psychotic Reaction features articles and pieces on The Sonics, Count V, Gonn, We The People, Elastik Band, The Standells and, in what might be my fave article in the issue, a look at the garage bands that appeared on The Flintstones cartoon and Garage in the Movies, which charts all the appearances of garage punk outfits on the big screen. There's also a great piece of garage art from Super Furry Animals cohort Pete Fowler. Effectively, it's a compendium of Brian Jones haircuts, Beatle boots and crappily recorded 45s that make you want to jump and shout. Oh, and here's the Beau Brummels (or the Beau Brummelstones) appearance on The Flintstones... --Electric Roulette
Reseña del editor:
The U.S. 1960s Garage Rock Explosion featuring Sonics · Bay Area Garage · Count V · Flintstones · Gonn · Texas Garage · Garage in the Movies · Blues Magoos · Pleasure Seekers · Elastik Band · Standells · Rationals · Tampa Bay Garage · Davie Allan · We The People. These in-depth and exclusive features - from the pens of top pop writers, archivists and historians - cover a broad spectrum of North American bands who have come to define the term 'garage'. Loooooong hair, Vox guitars, Farfisa organs, Beatle boots, tight Levis and a ton of snot and attitude - these bands invented the punk ethic 10 years before the word 'punk' was even being used. From New York (The Blues Magoos) down to Florida (We The People); from Texas (Zakary Thaks) up to the North West (The Sonics, The Wailers); this is the first US garage reader to hit the shelves to date. Nobody has covered the U.S. '60s garage band explosion with such dedication and know-how before.
