9780955215438: Damien Hirst: New Religion
Reseña del editor:

This catalogue is published to accompany the exhibition âNew Religionâ, a major new project by Damien Hirst, and the artistâs first to be shown in an active church. âNew Religionâ highlights the conflicts between science and religion, art and belief. Its fifty silkscreen prints and four sculptures work as a fresco cycle â moving from the creation of the world, through the stations of the cross and towards the Last Judgment. âNew Religionâ succinctly sums up and extends Hirstâs treatment of issues such as belief, mortality, love, seduction and consumption, which have steadfastly remained the themes that have dominated his work and given it meaning over the last fifteen years.

Biografía del autor:

Born in Bristol in 1965, Damien Hirst studied at Goldsmith's College, London. In 1988 he curated the now renowned exhibition, 'Freeze', held in London. In 1991, he had his first solo exhibition in London entitled 'In and Out of Love' and the following year he was a major part of the groundbreaking Young British Artists exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London. He was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize, London in 1995. Hirst's work has been shown in many important group and solo shows throughout the world. He lives and works in Devon, London and Mexico.

Descripción Paul Stolper, United Kingdom, 2008. Hardback. Estado de conservación: New. 270 x 212 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book. Published in 2006 following Damien Hirst s first major print exhibition at the Paul Stolper Gallery in London in 2005, New Religion explores Hirst s central themes: I was thinking that there are four important things in life: religion, love, art and science. Of them all, science seems to be the right one now. Like religion, it provides the glimmer of hope that maybe it will be all right in the end. With full-color reproductions of this entire series of Hirst silkscreen prints produced for the New Religion exhibition, such as The Apostles, The Wound of Christ, The Last Supper and The Stations of the Cross, as well as editioned sculptures and multiples such as The Fate of Man and the box/cabinet called New Religion, this hardback publication is a modern day biblical picture-book exploring combinations between science and religion. And the ideas about Hirst s science/religion dichotomy are further explored through an intriguing interview with Sean O Hagan that moves effortlessly from the macro to the micro, and back again, I just can t help thinking that science is the new religion for many people. It s as simple and as complicated as that really. Nº de ref. de la librería AA99780955215438
