Published to coincide with Watford Football Club's completion of its first 115 years, including exactly a century of Southern League and Football League membership, this book is a tribute to all the players - the well-known, the half-remembered and the completely forgotten - and all the managers, who served the club throughout its long history, up to the end of the 1995/6 season. There are sections on the pre-Southern League era, on wartime players, and on honours won in club and international football, but most of the book is devoted to nearly 900 brief biographies of all those who have represented the club since it entered the Southern League in 1896. They include some of British football's most famous names, and others who have achieved distinction in various ways outside the game, from periods of detainment as a guest of the sovereign to, in one case, a knighthood for services to medical research. The book gives all of them equal coverage, and contains photographs, full names, dates of birth and death, Watford career statistics, overall career paths, representative honours, and descriptive text recording countless details of interest, footballing and otherwise.
