In two introductory chapters, Williams stresses the importance of children's questions and appropriate parental responses and traces mental development from birth to age seven. Most of the book consists of typical questions and answers on human biology, zoology, botany, microbiology, chemistry, and physics. Answers are elaborated upon for parents. Some questions are accompanied by suggestions for activities that reinforce learning. The author's genuine interest in children and her gentle philosophy of education permeate every page. Needham's attractive sketches enhance the text. Recommended for parents, day care personnel, and nursery school teachers. Shirley L.
