9780907791621: Zig Zag Zen: Buddhism and Psychedelics (New Edition)
Reseña del editor:

Buddhism and psychedelic exploration share a common concern: the liberation of the mind. This new edition of Zig Zag Zen: Buddhism and Psychedelics has substantially evolved from the landmark anthology that launched the first serious inquiry into the moral, ethical, doctrinal, and transcendental considerations of the intersection of Buddhism and psychedelics. A provocative and thoughtful exploration of inner states and personal transformation, Zig Zag Zen now includes an expanded display of stunning artwork from Android Jones, Sukhi Barber, Randal Roberts, Luke Brown and Ang Tsherin Sherpa, and more work by the pioneering visionary artist Alex Grey. Complementing these new images are original essays by such luminaries as Ralph Metzner and Brad Warner; exciting interviews with James Fadiman, Kokyo Henkel, and Rick Doblin; and a discussion of ayahuasca's unique influence on Zen Buddhism by David Coyote (six new text contributions in total); all of which have been carefully curated to extend the original inquiry of authors Joan Halifax Roshi, Peter Matthiesen, Jack Kornfield, Terence McKenna, Rick Fields and many others. Contemporary seekers of spiritual truth know that both Buddhism and psychedelics are inevitably subjects encountered along the journey. By examining them together, the reader can discover truth about the essence of each.

Descripción Synergetic Press. Paperback. Estado de conservación: New. Paperback. 256 pages. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 7.0in. x 1.0in.More than ever, people are in pursuit of greater fulfillment in their lives, seeking a deeper spiritual truth and strategies for liberation from suffering. Both Buddhism and psychedelics are inevitable subjects that one encounters in such spiritual pursuit and by examining them together, one can find truth about the essence of each. This new edition of the classic work on Buddhism and psychedelics brings forth original material, including an interview with Rick Doblin, founder of MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies), and a discussion of ayahuascas unique influence on Zen Buddhism. Zig Zag Zen brings a wealth of opinion and experience to contemporary readers through the voices of a variety of individuals with varying perspectives. Edited by Tricycle contributing editor Allan Badiner and art edited by renowned visionary artist Alex Grey, Zig Zag Zen features a foreword by Buddhist scholar Stephen Batchelor, a preface by historian of religion Huston Smith, and numerous essays and interviews. This is the only book of its kind that explores both Buddhism and psychedelics by creating an instructive conversation between the two. Interspersed throughout are stunning full-page color images of visionary art selected by art editor Alex Grey. Beyond the scope of mainstream anthologies, Zig Zag Zen provides provocative insights into alternative methods for inner exploration and the liberation of the mind.
