In 1925, he scored literary success with one of his first novels, The Informer, about a confused rebel during the Irish War of Independence, which John Ford (O'Flaherty's cousin) adapted into a movie that was nominated for an Academy Award. Some of O'Flaherty's best short stories, including those in The Pedlar's Revenge, appeared first in Irish-language versions. N. B.
