Review:

What a fantastic book! If you are a student of plant pathology, this is what you need and if you are a lecturer and you get the CDs Mycology Volumes 1 & 2 from APS Press, you have 99% of the material you will need to prepare a comprehensive animated course in Plant Pathology. This must be one of the most user friendly books on the market and a great deal of work and experience has gone into producing it. I certainly plan to adopt this as the course title for my course in plant pathology. All colleges and libraries where agriculture and plant pathology is taught should have this. Anyone teaching plant pathology should get this and consider adopting it as their course textbook. --Fungal Diversity

Written as a text for college students, this publication provides practical advice for the home gardener, having as its theme how to diagnose what s wrong with an unhealthy plant and how to prevent plant disease. Both novice and experienced gardeners, seriously interested in garden problems and faced with such challenges, will gain knowledge about the reasons why a plant is not well and the technical vocabulary needed to describe a plant s appearance. Heavily illustrated, this user-friendly book is also accompanied by a CD. --National Gardener Magazine

For several years I have been searching for a textbook that meets the needs of the students in my undergraduate plant pathology class. With permission of the authors, I have been using several chapters of Essential Plant Pathology as readings over the last three semesters. The book is written in a way that truly engages my students and it focuses on the concepts and principles that I feel are most important. I am amazed at how well the book fits the way I teach my class! I can t wait to begin using the complete book and accompanying CD next semester! --Edward J. Braun, Professor

I have taught General Plant Pathology for over 20 years and used several different texts. I decided to adopt Essential Plant Pathology for Fall semester 2006 because this text approaches plant pathology the same way I teach my course. The book is very readable for the beginning student, but also offers enough substance for more advanced students. Inclusion of classic diseases and interesting facts in separate boxes provides a refreshing alternative to other textbooks, and the addition of a CD-ROM with images from the book and electronic resources should make it easier for instructors to prepare lectures. I am very excited to use this new text and look forward to student reaction to it. --Tim Murray, Professor
