Michele Diener strives to combine the often distinct worlds of environmental sustainability and business administration.
Michele is the Director of Sustainability Strategies for MGM Resorts International and she is responsible for the development of environmentally sustainable operations programs. Prior to MGM Resorts, Michele worked for Sustainable Conservation, a non-profit organization focused on private sector collaboration to improve environmental quality. While at Sustainable Conservation, Michele studied environmentally sustainable hotels in California. As a continuation of her research, Michele co-authored "High Performance Hospitality: Sustainable Hotel Case Studies" which serves as an industry resource for hotel developers, owners, and operators.
Michele began her career as a Strategic Planning Associate for Toyota Motor Sales, USA. At Toyota, Michele created and led "Process Green," an initiative integrating environmentally sensitive building design within Toyota's 10 million sq ft U.S. real estate portfolio. Michele authored the article "A Sustainable Approach to Corporate Real Estate" and was also recognized for Process Green with CoreNet's Global Innovator's Award in 2003.
In 2010, Michele was elected as a Conservation District of Southern Nevada Board Supervisor. She also sits on the Cornell University Design and Environmental Analysis/Facility Planning and Management Advisory Board as well as the University of Michigan School of Business Net Impact Alumni Advisory Board.
Michele is a LEED Accredited Professional and she graduated from the Southern California Leadership class facilitated by Coro in 2001. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree and a Master of Science in Natural Resources degree from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University.
