9780857053091: the truth about the harry quebert affair

August 30, 1975. The day of the disappearance. The day Aurora, New Hampshire, lost its innocence.

That summer Harry Quebert fell in love with fifteen-year-old Nola Kellergan. Thirty-three years later, her body is dug up from his yard along with a manuscript copy of his career-defining novel. Quebert is the only suspect. Marcus Goldman-Quebert's most gifted protégé-throws off his writer's block to clear his mentor's name.

Solving the case and penning a new bestseller soon blur together. As his book begins to take on a life of its own, the nation is gripped by the mystery of "The Girl Who Touched the Heart of America".

But with Nola, in death as in life, nothing is ever as it seems. Joël Dicker's phenomenal European bestseller is a brilliantly intricate murder mystery, a hymn to the boundless reaches of the imagination, and a love story like no other. Nothing you've read or even felt before can prepare you for The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair.

Review:

An Amazon Best Book of the Month, May 2014: A successful young author suffering from writer’s block journeys to New Hampshire to visit his former professor. Shortly after he arrives, the bones of a girl are found buried in the professor’s backyard. Now the professor has been arrested for the murder of the girl--who disappeared in 1975 at the age of fifteen--and the author has an idea: he will write a book based on the case that will ultimately exonerate his professor and jumpstart his writing. Already a massive best seller in Europe (and translated into 32 languages), The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair arrives in North America amid such wild praise you might expect something groundbreaking. Instead, what you get is a wonderful, fun, and boisterous read, a book with an uncanny ability to both fascinate and amuse you. Twists and turns and oddball characters make this a rollicking bullet-train of a novel. --Chris Schluep

Descripción Maclehose Press. 1 Cloth(s), 2014. hard. Estado de conservación: New. (Finalist for France's Prix Goncourt and Prix Femina and the winner of the Grand Prix du Roman de l'Académie Française and the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens) Hugely popular in Europe, this second novel from Swiss author Joël Dicker is a fast-paced, tightly plotted, cinematic literary thriller and an ingenious book within a book. August 30, 1975, was the day that 15-year-old Nola Kellergan was glimpsed fleeing through the woods near Somerset, New Hampshire, never to be heard from again. Three decades later Marcus Goldman comes to the town looking for help from his literary mentor Harry Quebert, Somerset's favorite son—just as Nola's body is discovered on Harry's property."It's like Twin Peaks meets Atonement meets In Cold Blood—the French thriller everyone is talking about."—Daily Telegraph (London)"Unimpeachably terrific . a playful, page-turning whodunit. If Norman Mailer had been accused of murder and Truman Capote had collaborated with Dominick Dunne on a tell-all about it, the result might have turned out something like this."—NYTimes 615.
