In this picture book from Bill Myers, author of The Incredible Worlds of Wally McDoogle series, Jimmy finds a magic pocket watch that lets him skip ahead in time. Maybe a week, a day or just until the end of class or until it's his turn up to bat again.
Soon, however, he discovers the wisdom of God's Plan for us to experience not just the good times, but the bad times, and especially the in-between times.

Bill lives with his wife and two daughters in Southern California. From School Library Journal:
Gr 1-3-Always impatient, Jimmy dreams that he finds a magic watch that enables him to skip ahead through time. He discovers that he can be at baseball practice instead of sitting through a whole day at school-it can even be his turn at bat. He goes on to skip meals he doesn't like, haircuts, shopping for clothes, bathing, and studying. In the end, though, he realizes that when he avoids "the bad and in-between times of life," he is disobeying God's plan, and that to live fully one must experience bad times, as well as good. The maudlin illustrations complement the didactic tone of the text.-Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY
