Zebra didn't bring out The Blackthorn Trilogy as a trilogy. Instead, they published them as stand-alone books putting Risk Everything first, Always Mine second, and Midnight's Bride third.
The beginning of the story is Always Mine and should be read first, Midnight's Bride is the second book and Risk Everything finished up the trilogy.
When read in this order, you understand the characters better and the story is complete.
This tale of Damron's half-brothere Mereck was more than fun to write. I deliberately used a heroine, Netta, that was unusually innocent for the time period, but with good reason. It showed the soft side of Mereck and how tender he was of every woman.
Not only that, it was fun having Mereck being able to hear her thoughts. Each time she tried to trick him, he was aware of her every move. I laughed so hard my husband used to come in here and want to know what was so funny. He'd just shake his head and grin.
It takes a lot of patience to be married to an author. After all, we have fascinating characters running around in our head. Who would want to compete with that?
A MAN FOR ALL REASONS
Mereck's voice filled Netta with sensuous yearnings. The ties of his white shirt slid open, baring the hard planes of his chest. She stared as his powerful muscles flexed with his movements. Her pulse quickened. Would his bare skin feel hot to her hands? Would the hair on his chest tickle her palms? The rooom seemed hot. She sipped her watered wine.
It helped not a whit.
