Sinopsis

The dialogue between East and West is evident in several of the essays included in this volume, which contains revised versions of papers on GDR culture and society given at the fourteenth New Hampshire Symposium on the German Democratic Republic. The general topic of the Symposium was dimensions of change in the GDR. Unique to the meetings were the interdisciplinary approach dealing with technological change, social theory and changing social values, the political and economic implications of change in the USSR and Eastern Europe, new issues in youth culture and youth policy, and current trends in literature and cultural theory. These articles by both literary scholars and social scientists will be of interest to students of the GDR and Eastern Europe.
