Kirk Hammett has been the lead guitarist for Metallica since 1983. In 2003, he was ranked 11th in Rolling Stone's list, "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." The co-author is Steffan Chirazi, a music journalist who has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, Penthouse, and Salon.com. He also works with Metallica as their in-house fan magazine editor and creative director.
