Francisco Bouligny: A Bourbon Soldier in Spanish Louisiana is an examination of one of the first citizens of colonial period Spanish Louisiana. It also provides not only a story of Bouligny, but the history of Louisiana. History such as Spain's takeover of Louisiana from the French, the administration of the colony, Louisiana's involvement in the American Revolution, and the final years of the colony before its purchase by the United States; including insights into the makeup of Louisiana's colonial militia, the military establishment generally, and the colony's economy, politics, and social strata. This book is based on years of research in archives in Spain and the United States as well as on family papers and secondary materials in several languages.
