9780805211245: Yom Kippur War

Yom Kippur War In this galvanizing account of the most dramatic of the Arab-Israeli hostilities, Abraham Rabinovich, who reported the conflict for the Jerusalem Post, transports us into the midst of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Review:

"The Yom Kippur War of 1973, exceeding in scope even the 1942 Battle of al-Alamein, has found its ideal chronicler. Abraham Rabinovich has long enjoyed a distinguished reputation for the acuity of his insights into Middle Eastern political and military issues. Nevertheless, while his earlier articles and books have been widely read and praised, the current volume may well be his magnum opus. Its revelations are astonishing. Its prose is gripping. Its conclusions, richly documented and austerely objective, are intensely relevant to the Middle Eastern crisis of our own day."
--Howard M. Sachar, author of "A History of Israel From the Rise of Zionism to Our Own Time
" As no one before, Abraham Rabinovich recounts the whole story of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, that most elusive round of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Based primarily on Israeli sources, his well-written history skillfully covers everything from the individual soldier s experience to the deep implications of the war."
--Daniel Pipes, author of "Miniatures: Views of Islamic and Middle Eastern Politics"

Descripción Random House USA Inc, United States, 2005. Paperback. Estado de conservación: New. 2nd Revised edition. Language: English . Brand New Book. A revised edition of the definitive history of the 1973 Arab-Israeli conflict--including new information previously subject to military censorship--by the journalist who covered it for The Jerusalem Post. In 2004, Schocken published this galvanizing account of what became known as the Yom Kippur War. The surprise two-front war triggered apocalyptic visions in Israel, hopes and fears in the Arab world, and heated internal conflicts on both sides. Using extensive interviews and declassified materials, Rabinovich masterfully outlined the story of this war in this critically acclaimed volume. More than a decade later, new information--formerly blocked by military censorship--has come to light. Previously unexamined sources, transcripts, and tape recordings now offer an even more complex and intriguing history of the war. With this new information, Rabinovich revisits his classic account of the war and updates it with new stories, new facts, and new photographs, further establishing The Yom Kippur War as our most trusted and definitive source on the subject.
