A Step-by-step method written for beginning cello students of any age, with or without a teacher. The left page gives information about the tune: where the hard spots are, various techniques and some music theory. The right page provides different bowing patterns and a line of music at the bottom showing you all the notes that are used in the tune. Scales and arpeggios are included with most tunes. The companion CD teaches all of the tunes, studies, scales and arpeggios in this book by ear. Learn to read notated music in the first position of the cello, playing classical, American, Celtic and blues tunes as well as how to follow a chord chart and accompany other musicians.

About the Author:

Cellist and clinician Renata Bratt is president of the International Association for Jazz Education String Caucus where, together with Darol Anger and Martin Norgaard, she has served as a Resource Team Leader. She is also a member of the American String Teachers Association/ National School Orchestra Association Alternative Style Festival and Awards Committee. She writes articles on improvisation for ASTA and the American Suzuki Journal and is a former president of the Suzuki Music Association of California. In addition to concertizing with various classical, jazz, and fiddle groups, Ms. Bratt has performed as a backup musician for such luminaries as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, David Sanborn, Lyle Lovett, and Dionne Warwick. Rolling Stone magazine dubbed her an "ace performer" for her recording and touring work with alternative rocker Cindy Lee Berryhill's Garage Orchestra. Ms. Bratt received her Ph.D. in Music from the University of California at San Diego.
