This is a textbook on minor surgical techniques written for veterinary nurses by a veterinary surgeon who clearly views his nursing staff as valuable members of the veterinary team (and rightly so). It is a collection of all the essential information required by a qualified veterinary nurse to become confident at performing minor surgical procedures. Although the text is written primarily for qualified veterinary nurses, trainees and students will also find sections very useful. I was amazed by the amount of information assembled in this little book and found it very practical and enjoyable to read. Each chapter, with the liberal use of high quality colour photographs, sample record documents, sample client sheets, sample drug, anaesthetic and fluid combination charts, makes a useful reference guide for each topic. Using a strong foundation of surgical principles, the author explains step-by-step how to perform several minor surgical procedures mentioning common pitfalls, potential complications and offering valuable hints and tips. This is the type of book which encourages you to use it by applying the theory you have learned to everyday practice.

This text book also highlights the need for "veterinary nurses and surgeons alike to embrace the notion of honing the surgical and related nursing skills of listed veterinary nurses" thus helping to contribute to improved quality of patient care, job satisfaction and, of course, increase the revenue of the practice. 'Minor Veterinary Surgery - A Handbook for Veterinary Nurses' is a super book and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. If you only buy one book this coming year to update/start you nursing library this textbook would be an excellent investment!
