About the Author:

Founded in 1978, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is an international not-for-profit educational association that serves 33,000 members in 56 countries. Drawing on its vast network of members, the NSCA develops and presents the most advanced information regarding strength training and conditioning practices, injury prevention and research findings. Jay Hoffman, PhD, is a professor and the chair of the department of health and exercise science at the College of New Jersey. Long recognized as an expert in the field of exercise physiology, Hoffman has more than 75 publications to his credit on human performance in journals, book chapters and books. He also has more than 17 years of experience coaching at collegiate and professional levels.
