This book presents an interactive approach to neonatal evaluation and management of the most common problems in infants. Each chapter features case histories, which require the reader to make diagnostic and/or therapeutic decisions, and to explain various scientific concepts as they apply to each clinical problem. The New Edition has been completely revised to incorporate the multitude of advances in neonatal care. The case studies illustrate the use of therapies that significantly reduce patient mortality and complication rates such as routine use of natural and artificial surfactants and ECMOs. Developments in monitoring methods such as noninvasive pulse oximetry, Doppler echocardiography and refinements in diagnostic ultrasound are also discussed.
