About the book >.>.> IThe name 'Bradshaw' is inevitably associated with the famous railway timetable which Punch, poking fun at its complications in a series of articles in 1865, turned into a national institution. But, amongst lesser known works, George Bradshaw and his firm also published exquisite railway maps, descriptive guides and itineraries, and a handbook to canals and navigable rivers. Bradshaw's Railway Manual, Shareholders' Guide and Official Directory (the title finally adopted in 1863) was started in 1848 and issued annually up to 1923, inclusive. As will be obvious from the title, this serial publication was primarily for the benefit of people having a financial interest in railways and, especially, those whose concern extended rather beyond the mere return on their money to attendance at company meetings, criticism of management, writing letters to the railway press, and so on. In short, a practical interest which required a fairly extensive knowledge of railway companies and their activities. Nº de ref. del artículo: Batch-FM256-G-6631
