When not doing undercover work, Leslie "Tapper" Tryon writes and illustrates children's books, among other artistic ventures. She began the ever-popular Albert the Duck adventures in 1991 with the ALA Notable Book Albert's Alphabet, followed by Albert's Play (1992), Albert's Field Trip (1993), Albert's Thanksgiving (1994), Albert's Ballgame (1996), and Albert's Christmas (1997). She has also illustrated Dear Peter Rabbit and Yours Truly, Goldilocks by Alma Flor Ada.From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Albert the duck and his animal friends share another adventure. Following a series of clues, the gang searches for 18 pumpkins that have been stolen from Patsy Pig's patch. After investigating a dead tree, the library steps, and a playground, the detectives are able to uncover only four of the missing gourds. Then they find a note that instructs them to retrace their steps and look again more carefully. Children will enjoy returning to the scenes of the crime and hunting through the detailed illustrations for the partially hidden pumpkins. The final double spread reveals the thief, Patsy Pig, who devised this clever game to amuse her friends. Filled with dark shadows, Tryon's illustrations provide the perfect setting for the story, while the characters' use of flashlights to spotlight clues, light the paths they take, and reveal objects in the night add additional flare to the mysterious ambiance. A terrific Halloween story that does not have ghosts or witches, this book will be fun to share in October; however, children will enjoy hunting for pumpkins throughout the year.
