In America today, approximately 50 percent of our children score below the average grade level in reading. Concerned parents will go to any length to improve their child's reading skills, sometimes spending thousands of dollars on remedial specialists. In Reading Reflex, Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness, the founders of Read America, one of the most successful remedial reading programs in the nation, offer a low-cost, fool proof method for teaching reading to children who have problems.The McGuinness's program, Phono-Graphix "TM", allows parents to use what the child already knows, the sounds of his own language, to teach reading in record time. Research shows this linguistically based method teaches reading in one tenth the time of phonics, with a one hundred percent success rate.Within 12 sessions of using this program, learning-disabled students, as well as children with lower than average reading skills, increased their reading skills by at least one grade level. After only 11 weeks of exposure, four and five year olds were reading at first grade level.
