The trunk waited in the shed as the seasons passed then came again, silently brooding, hoping for someone to discover it. From the Author:

This was my first novel.  It began with a short story by the same name.  At the time I was trying to come to terms with the death of my mother remembering all the things she loved - her family, her friends and "stuff" she had placed in a trunk - pictures, a journal I had kept many years before, a buckeye from the tree in the backyard, a locket, a seashell, letters from a man she was in love with, long before my father, who died in World War Two.  By far, the most precious was a scarf I had given her on her 50th birthday, an expensive scarf, more money than my mother would ever have spent on herself.  It became a symbol of our love.   My mother died before I had the chance to know her as a person, more than a mother.  We fought a lot, as mothers and daughters often do, because we were different - she a private person and me, well, I wear my heart on my sleeve.  When writing The Trunk I decided on two characters:  me and my alter ego, myself as a child.  Together we went through the things in the trunk and together we shared our perception.  It was a journey of transformation.  It took me five years to write this book but they were, at the time, the most important five years of my life.  I only wish my mother could have read it but, then again, it probably would not have been written if she had not died.  I know her spirit watched over me as I wrote those words.  I hope, in sharing them, that other women will find peace in loss, forgive the person who gave them life, and perhaps write their own stories.

About the Author:

Annabel Hurst Moore lives in central Ohio with her husband and son.   A retired college professor, she now spends most of her time reading and writing.  Her inspiration comes from experience and from the writers she admires among them Maya Angelou, Joyce Carol Oates and Ernest Hemingway.  She believes in the power of Zen and intuition.  Her favorite quote is by Maya Angelou:  I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.
