The Boy Friend is a three-act musical and was originally presented as a new musical comedy of the 1920's at the Players' Theatre on 14th April, 1953. The first public presentation was at Wyndhams Theatre on 14th January, 1954. It's a perennial saga of boy meets girl, boy loses girl through a misunderstanding before the truth is eventually revealed, prompting a collected sigh of relief and everyone lives happily ever after. Despite its all to familiar storyline, this song-and-dance show about a finishing school on the French Riviera in the Roaring Twenties remains popular, tours regularly and succeeds despite its old-fashioned façade, its outmoded innocence and its contrived storyline.

Reseña del editor:
The vocal score with piano reduction for the 1920s musical comedy The Boyfriend by Sandy Wilson. The assistant stage manager of a small-time theatrical company (Polly Browne) is forced to understudy for the leading lady (Rita) at a matinee performance at which an illustrious Hollywood director (Cecil B. DeThrill) is in the audience scouting for actors to be in his latest "all-talking, all-dancing, all-singing" extravaganza. Polly also happens to fall in love with the leading man (Tony) and imagines several fabulous fantasy sequences! The first presentation of The Boyfriend was in April, 1953 and the first public performance in January, 1954. Ken Russell directed the film version in 1971, with Twiggy taking the leading role of Polly Browne.
