In this latest Foxfire volume 20 elderly residents of Appalachia reminisce about and describe their childhood amusements. Instructions for playing fox and geese, lemon relay, clothespins, horseshoes, and mumblety-peg are to be found here, as well as directions for dollmaking and cornstalk creations. Rope jumping ditties and riddles are among the other entertainments. Discrepancies about the rules and directions have been resolved by the current students of Rabun Gap, Georgia, who have played all the games and constructed all the toys. Other works may describe the same games, but the oral history tradition of the Foxfire books provides an extra dimension to this collection. For public and school libraries.
