Review:

Kate Miller may be the daughter of a genteel southern lady and renegade confederate soldier, but she is very much a woman of the west. Hard working and self sufficient, she's taken responsibility for herself and her mother since her father ran out on them. She changes her and her mother's name, settles in Moose Gulch, a mining town that has seen better days, and hopes to find peace and quiet. Kate makes a place for herself among the miners and remaining townspeople. The only thing worse than her outlaw father coming back into their lives would be for someone to come looking for him. Parker Smith becomes her worst nightmare when he arrives in town with his easy going charm and persistent questions. When the town makes him sheriff, she doesn't know how long her secret will be safe. Parker comes to Moose Gulch, looking for Katherine Turner, daughter of an outlaw. He and Kate play a cat and mouse game of ignoring her identity and that it's her father he's hunting. Kate heaps a helping of sass with every meal she serves at the hotel where she works and Parker looks forward to it more than dessert. Kate doesn't like the fact he's looking for her father and she hates the emotions he stirs in her that aren't at all practical. Just as their passion ignites and they both try to put the past behind them, miners start getting robbed. Kate and Parker fear her father is the thief and they unite to find him. What they discover is secrets too many have tried to hide, and a love that will surmount them. Deborah Lawrence also writes as Deborah Wood for Homespun.Deborah Lawrence creates characters in Humble Pie that are the backbone of the west! Parker Smith is a likable hero women wouldn't mind meeting on a cold winter's night!
